A law enforcement officer who was on highway patrol duty has reportedly engaged in a physical altercation with a group of civilians.
The incident is said to have occurred when the officer, who goes by the nickname ‘Abodwese’, allegedly attempted to take possession of a dead rat that the young men had obtained during a hunting trip in Kumawu, a town located in the Ashanti Region.
The altercation ensued after the young men refused to comply with the officer’s attempt to take the carcass.
According to an eyewitness named Nana Sarpong, who shared details of the incident with Luv News, the young men refused to surrender the dead rat to the officer, which prompted him to fire a warning shot.
He further claimed that the officer then used the butt of his gun to strike one of the men. A video obtained by Luv News shows one of the young men holding the officer by his neck, while others gathered around them.
Two other police officers attempted to break up the scuffle and took away the officer’s gun. However, the officer was still being held by his uniform as his colleagues walked away.
The young men have been arrested by the police, and sources from Luv News report that the police in Effiduase are currently investigating the incident.
